Personality : The Secret Of The Dog In The Manger

The ‘dog in a manger’ is a figurative language used to describe real people. People exhibit different personality traits in our day-to-day life interactions with them.

A dog found a resting place in a manger. Then a cow comes to feed on the hay.She is tired and hungry having ploughed the fields the whole day. The dog cannot stop barking at the cow.

He sits there stopping the cow from feeding on the hay. Am pretty sure that at one point in your life, you’ve come across the ‘dog in a manger’. Its normal to interact with such people who will prevent you from benefiting from things that they themselves have no use for.

These things could range from life opportunities, job promotions, relationships and networks. Spiteful people are all over. And the most interesting part is that, they are our friends, family members, relatives. neighbors or workmates. They are all over.

You can’t escape from them. The best we can do is to learn to live with them. Understand their personality traits and what motivates such behaviors. Now that brings us to two critical areas: character vs personality.

Character versus Personality

Ones character is the behavior you’ve learned overtime. These are all the attributes that dictate whether you succeed in achieving your goals, whether you engage with others, and whether you respect the terms of engagement within a group setting.

While your personality involves innate or natural behaviors that are shown outwardly.

Although character and personality are connected, they are two different things. Personality mainly involves hereditary qualities, while character consists of learned deeds.

Character is mostly learned from your parents, teachers and friends. Since it is learned, character can also change over time depending on the environment that you are in. This is because learning originates from being taught directly or from observations of others.

People seem to be conceived with certain personality characteristics or inclinations. Some people are nervous, while some are sociable and talking. Some people appear to be leaders, while others are pragmatic in their thought process.

Character is related to attitudes and values.

The Essence of Life

People from all walks of life are categorized into four groups of A, B , C and D personalities.

However, rarely do we find a personality type that solely exhibits the traits of one type of personality.

Usually, an individual is classified under a type that he predominantly exhibits traits of, but there are several other traits that he exhibits as well, depending on the situation.

Let us understand the personality types A, B, C, and D in greater detail in the following sections.

Type A Personality Traits

These individuals are of a highly independent nature. Their ambition to leave their mark in this world singles them out.

They are self-driven, and they know the importance of goal setting, positive thinking, and motivation. If you’re interested in understanding someone who falls under this category, use one of the ranks of business leaders.

They are naturally competitive and very time-conscious. They are seen as people who are impatient, and are easily susceptible to aggression, viciousness, and arrogance.

They are very well-known for their potency to get to the core of the story, without any-nonsense and flippant aspects. Type A personalities are risk-taking persons that portray an entrepreneurial mindset.

They do have the capacity to use simplicity to fix problems as they arise. They are not confined to social approvals and will do anything to achieve their targets.

Other features that distinguishes this type of personality are the fact that they always assume that they should be doing something.

Standing in line or waiting for a bus is a punishment, all they can think of is just how much time they ‘re wasting and how they’d have done something valuable.

Speaking of which, they are lost without the scheduled events of their day. It isn’t shocking for people to call them workaholics, because they find it hard to just take it easy or even sleep swiftly at night..

They are also prone to cutting people off while the others speak and have been shown to have a low tolerance of incompetence.

People who fall under type A personality types are prone to hypertension, stress, heart disease, and social isolation.

Type B Personality

Type B personality is essentially the opposite of type A personality. Individuals are therefore seldom depressed, even in apparently difficult conditions.

They are extremely relaxed in any situation, and people often call them happy-go-lucky. They ‘re usually cheerful and carefree in most situations, and people love to hang out with them because they ‘re usually entertaining and fun to be around.

Under this type, people are best described by their lack of urgency — they can work at their own pace, without being driven by time limits. They love to live one day at a time and are never in a hurry.

Type B personality traits are less competitive, and although they give the project everything they need, they are not worried about it — constantly worrying about the end result and achievement. In fact, they are able to handle failures very well―taking them as obstacles and moving on to other projects.

Another factor that sets them apart is that they are extremely patient and maintain the same patience in the most tense and stressful conditions. They never give in to pressure and aggression, and they never get frantic about anything. They are also very tolerant, flexible, and adaptable in situations, and they hardly ever complain about things.

They lead a full social life, because they like to connect with people and form strong emotional ties with them. And being naturally cheerful and entertaining, they easily make friends.

Type C Personality

Personality type C usually comprises of introverts interested in details. To them ,there is always an explanation to everything. In their world, nothing just happens for the sake.

They could turn heaven and hell upside down or inside out to find something they’re interested in, before taking it to pieces to restart the process. The discerning spirit makes them not to take things at face value and are keen to find out exactly how things work.

The above people try and stay away from social or human interaction. The desire to be factual is what inspires such individuals. You can find people of type C tailored in auditors, data analysts, etc.

These people find it hard to get out of their shell and interact with others, but they are incredibly talented when it comes to math and logic. A restrained nature is the sign of personality traits of type C.

Risk-taking is not a very attractive option for these people who tend not to venture into something until a fine-toothed comb has gone over all the facts.

Being strong advocates of detail and understanding, and proud to support every decision with research, they don’t do very well with condemnation. They ‘re also too critical of the folks around them.

Type D Personality

Such people really prefer to live a rigid lifestyle. They tend to follow established ways of doing things with no room for imagination or innovation. Personality type D persons would rather stick to procedures set in place over the complexity of trying out new things.

They are good at taking commands and executing them the same way as they got them.

You’ll find them doing their best not to stretch out their necks when it comes to taking risk and responsibility. Only with assistance of experts in the field of psychological development and through the immense power of self-motivation or self-improvement, such manage to overcome their character flaw to a certain degree.

21 percent of the population comprise of personality type D. According to studies, these individuals are affected by negativity and hardly feel self-assured. Eventually this leads to problems such as anxiety , irritability, gloom, etc. They avoid opening up and sharing their negative emotions to avoid rejection.

It leads them to suffer from tremendous tension that renders them vulnerable to cardiac diseases. Studies show that as many as 18 to 53 per cent of cardiac patients have a personality of type D.

In reality, an individual is a mixture of personality traits characterizing all the types described above.

Will you not agree with me that this makes men extra complicated, females more strange to comprehend, and the world more vibrant?

That’s why you have to work incredibly hard over a prolonged period of time to get to know a person adequately.
