Gilgil is Nakuru’s sporting hub.The Government of Nakuru County is expected to rehabilitate and modernize at least one stadium in each sub-county.

The National Land Commission is subsequently working with the county to confiscate grabbed stadium land.

This would help develop talents among the youth in the County.

These stadiums are synonymous with football competitions that have produced top-of-the-range players at inter-county , village, and ward level.

The Minister was speaking at Gilgil Stadium in Gilgil. She officiated the Gilgil Ward football tournament organized by area MCA Jane Ngugi.

She subsequently commissioned the dressing rooms of professional players and provided sports kits to specific teams of men and women in football, volleyball and rugby.

The building has changing rooms for men and women, washrooms and the office of a caretaker.

Nakuru County has 17 stadiums and we evaluated what is required for the growth of sports in the county. We shall make all the necessary budgetary allocations to achieve this.

Road Drainage

The Nakuru County Government is negotiating a proper road drainage system with Kenya ‘s National Highways Authority to prevent the stadium from being flooded by runoff water flowing along the highways.

Gilgil Ward Member of County Assembly, Jane Ngugi thanked Nakuru County Government for their contribution to promoting county sports.

As Members of County Assembly, we are very passionate about nurturing sports and we will not hesitate in passing all relevant Bills that seek to develop sports in the County.

Mr. Ouma George, Chairman of the Gilgil Sports Council, applauded the renovation of the stadium. He notes that it will go a long way in fostering sport and ultimately creating jobs.

Hopefully, the liveliness of Gilgil’s sporting activities will make Gilgil sub-county a fully-fledged branch of the Kenya Football Federation. Hence disassociating it from Naivasha.

The changing room and washrooms will boost our morale as players. We would use thickets to answer calls of nature, something that made us feel forgotten.I urge Governor Lee Kinyanjui to address other challenges facing the stadium as well.
