The Directorate of Youth and Sports held a consultative engagement with Youth leaders drawn from the Nakuru Chamber of Commerce and Industry ~Nakuru chapter.
CECM in charge of the Department Eng.Lucy Kariuki reiterated on the need to have an objective in every Youth activity in the County as it will make youth projects more effective.
She gave an example of the recently concluded Kenya Youth Inter County Sports Association games that were held in Busia County where the objectives were set first before the team was assembled.
The direct result was 12 youths being scouted to join the Kenya Sports Talent Academy .
Eng Lucy also informed the Youth representatives that the Directorate will organize for Youth meetings in all sub counties in a move towards having a County Youth Policy by June next year .
She further urged the Youths to have a harmonised Youth group set up as the many groups proved hard to form s common front in programme implementation .
The directorate is also coming up with a database on youths with technical skills and proficiencies.
Her sentiments were echoed by the Chief Officer Youth and Sports Dr.William Migwe who said the youth directorate was aligning its programmes to emerging dynamics in Youth development.
Dr.Migwe informed the youth that they will directly be involved in coming up with the youth policy that will proactively deal with their concerns .
He said the directorate had four programmes ,namely Youth mainstreaming that will ensure Youths get opportunities in the different County departments ,Training the Youth on Employability skills ,Mental health awareness and linking the Youths with opportunities in Environment and Agriculture.
