The County Government of Nakuru is dedicated to the growth of sporting talent in the county. The Keringet Sports Academy will be built under the leadership of Governor Lee Kinyanjui.
As we speak, the County has acquired 20 acres to create the athletes ‘ high-altitude training facility. Keringet is home to many experienced athletes, including the reigning Olympic and World Champion Faith Chepng’etich in the 1500-meter women’s race.
The academy will be supporting athletes in the county and beyond upon completion. Nakuru County Government hopes to turn the facility into an international sports centre. This will also include job opportunities for, among others, instructors, physiotherapists, nutritionists. The County Government of Nakuru has set a budget to promote sports through provision of kits to our athletes.
After a rigorous selection process that took place last week, the Youth and Sports Directorate has sent a team today to represent the county in the 6th Kenya Youth Inter ~County Sports Association (KYISA) in Busia County.
They will compete in three sports, men and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball and men’s basketball.
Speaking while flagging off the team, Eng. Lucy Kariuki’s CECM incharge urged the youth to be diligent and maintain sportsmanship while they were in Busia.
She urged them to work hard since there will be coaching staff at the venue to choose the best among the rest.
Dr. William Migwe, Chief Officer Youth and Sports , encouraged the Nakuru County team to have a winning mentality and to maintain discipline throughout.
The activities will take place in 5 venues, namely, Busia Stadium, St. Mathias Busia Secondary, Our Lady of Mercy St. Monica Chakol girls, Lwanya girls and Busia Township Vocational Training Centre ,in Busia county.
