The Minister spoke when she received in her office Little Miss Kenya-2019 and Tiny Mr Kenya-2019 winners Briannah Nyambura and Jesse Smith, respectively.
The annual children’s pageantry that runs from the regional to the national level aims to build early-age creativity, self-esteem, confidence and personality.
A pupil at Lions Primary School in Nakuru, twelve-year-old Briannah has already demonstrated leadership skills whereby she is the deputy head girl of the school.
She is currently working on a charity project that targets the less privileged people in society and recycles plastics to clean up the environment.
I encourage children to never ever give up on anything they do outside of scholarly work and to always seek support from parents and teachers

Jessy Smith, 5, also from Lions Primary School wishes to be a pilot, unlike Briannah who hopes to be a diplomat some day.
But just like Briannah, Jessy’s enthusiasm for improving the world is working on a project to provide an environmentally friendly solution to plastic straws.
Billions of plastic straws a day are dumped into the ocean, many of which eventually kill water life in the ocean.
Briannah’s mom Ms Njeri Nyambura said that because of the institution of a competency-based syllabus, educational institutions should focus more on co-curricular activities.
It’s a lovely idea to support your children as it brings out their personality. It will nurture them, and they’ll never take anything for granted.
The winner of the “Little Miss World 2018 Grand Prix” was crowned last year by 12-year-old Tyra Angel Odeny from Kenya.
At the highly competitive 18th International Children’s Festival of Culture, Fashion and Arts held in Thessaloniki, Greece, she defeated 47 other participants from 20 nations.
