Divorce is no longer a controversial subject, and there’s nothing wrong with divorcing someone who isn’t a good match for you.

However, things would take an unexpected turn if the person you’re divorcing was you!

Don’t believe us? Well, it’s true. Cris Galera, 33, married herself in September and decided to call it quits after 90 days.

The 31-year-old woman, who married herself three months ago, is divorcing herself after falling in love with someone else.

Cris Galera was tired of relying on men and decided to marry herself in September.

She does, however, appear to have met someone else. “I was happy while it lasted,” she said. “I started to believe in love the moment I met someone else special.”

Previously, she took to Instagram to share photos from her wedding with the caption: I woke up huh! Yes, it’s true, people!

I rode the Sologamia wave and decided to marry myself. I’m celebrating my self-esteem and hope to inspire other women to do the same!

Have you ever wondered if this trend will catch on? Haha. This news had an impact both in Brazil and abroad?

I’m getting messages from men and women all over the world who want to marry me. It’s a shame, because I’m not getting divorced any time soon.

For those who don’t know, a sologamy is a marriage between a person and himself. I want everyone to congratulate me now!

On her wedding day, Cris could be seen showing off her tattoos in a stunning plunging white dress, posing outside a Catholic church in her native Brazil.

She happily posed for pictures on her wedding day in front of a Catholic church in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

What exactly is sologamy?

The act of marrying oneself is known as sologamy.

That’s right, you say “I do” to yourself, promising to love, honor, and cherish….you.

It’s not as narcissistic as it appears. The idea is to make a commitment to yourself that values self-love and self-compassion, and proponents of the practice claim it leads to a happier life.

The added benefit is that you don’t even need to change your name!

Is there a wedding ceremony?

There doesn’t necessarily have to be a ceremony – you can have what is known as a ‘self-uniting’ marriage – a marriage without the presence of an official.

The commitment can be anything from a quiet private moment in a room by yourself with a candle and a mirror to a full-blown wedding bonanza complete with dress, cake, reception and vows.

The lucky bride can choose her own gown, hair and bouquet and the two-day “solo wedding” package also includes a limo, a hotel stay and a commemorative photo album.

Of course you can organise your own sologamy wedding anywhere you like and the ceremony can take whatever form you choose as you commit to yourself for as long as you may live.
