When Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s administration through the Department of Trade, initiated the construction of modern kiosks in Meru town, rumor was rife that the kiosks would be issued corruptly without transparency to predetermined individuals.

However, today this notion was defeated, when 64 small scale traders received their certificates for the kiosks from the Governor, after a free, fair and transparent balloting process was carried out to issue the new business stalls, to the satisfaction of all residents in Makutano and Gitimbine who participated in the process.

Led by MCAs Elias Murega, Mutethia Mauru and Paul Bagine from whose three Wards beneficiaries of the kioks hail, the residents thanked and praised the Governor for the kiosks, noting this is a welcome reprieve for traders whose kiosks were demolished by the former regime.

These Kiosks are part of my government’s five year plan to transform Meru town as the Capital of our County. As you know we have already put Cabro in Gakoromone, Tom Mboya Street and Njuri Ncheke is being beautified. We are putting up a 3-storey modern market in Makutano and we are spending more this year to expand these projects to cover other areas in the town

Meru County Governor Kiraitu.

Deputy Governor Hon. Titus Ntuchiu congratulated the beneficiaries and encouraged them to cooperate on cleanliness and neatness of the new kiosks in line with the Moto, “My town, my business”.

Trade Executive Maingi Mugambi said that further Kiosks are under construction to bring on board more beneficiaries. County Assembly Members of the Committee on Trade led by Chairman Dr. David Kaithia, thanked Governor Kiraitu for the initiative, adding that the Assembly shall support the initiative to be extended to other towns in the County.

The certificate issuing ceremony took place at the County Government Headquarters and was attended by Members of the Meru Municipal Board led by the Chairman Bishop Kirimi Buria and various top County Government officials.
